Carsten Wittmoser

Bass-baritone

The Bass Baritone Carsten Wittmoser was born in Essen and after completing his studies he was hired as a permanent ensemble member at the Stuttgart State Opera. Afterwards he went to the Linz State Theater, Freiburg Theater and the Hamburg State Opera as a permanent member of the ensemble. He has been working freelance since 2008.

His repertoire includes the major roles in his field, such as the title role in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, Wotan (Wagner: Das Rheingold), Rocco and Don Pizarro (Beethoven: Fidelio), Escamillo (Bizet: Carmen), Scarpia (Puccini: Tosca ), Conte d’Almaviva (Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro) and Kurwenal (Wagner: Tristan und Isolde), which he recently sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Carsten Wittmoser has worked on many major opera houses around the world, including the Berlin State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Munich State Opera, the Teatro Real de Madrid, the Monte Carlo Opera, the Seattle Opera and the Detroit Opera , the Opera de Bogotá, the Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and most recently the Metropolitan Opera New York.

He has perforemd at the Bayreuth Festival, Lucerne, the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam, the Bard Summerscape in New York and to the Festivals in Taiwan and Singapore. He also has performed at some of the most important concert halls, such as the Wiener Musikverein, the Sala Sao Paulo, the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, the KKL in Lucerne and the Carnegie Hall in New York.

He has worked with major conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Valery Gergiev, Marius Jansons, Michael Boder, Simone Young, Ton Koopman, Pinchas Steinberg, Paavo Järvi, Semyon Bychkov, Sebastian Weigle, Dennis Russel Davies and James Levine.
